A Year of Art

Alberto García-Alix, Mahón, Menorca
2025 is shaping up to be a vivid year for art lovers, with an exhibition calendar that invites genuine contemplation. From the evocative retrospective of Alberto García-Alix in Menorca to the singular proposition of David Bailey, the artistic landscape is diversifying and deepening — offering immersive experiences across museums and galleries throughout Spain.

Among the year’s most anticipated events is David Bailey’s “Changing Fashion,” opening at the Fundación MOP in A Coruña. The iconic photographer of the 1960s transports visitors to a gilded era through more than 140 images that capture not merely fashion, but an entire revolutionary cultural moment. The retrospective of Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre at the Museo Reina Sofía promises to be a highlight of equal stature — restoring this multifaceted Canarian artist to the prominence his dialogue with Symbolism and Modernism demands.

“Florescència,” the new exhibition by Marría Pratts at Galería Mayoral, portrays the vital cycle of flora — weaving together painting and drawing in an aesthetic dialogue on growth and renewal. Each of these exhibitions does more than display works; each creates a space for critical reflection on art and its relationship with society.

Rounding out the season, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza will turn its focus to the influence of art on the work of Marcel Proust, guiding visitors through a world where literature and aesthetics are inextricably entwined. With these and many more exhibitions on the calendar, 2025 stands as a year of uncommon artistic richness — an open invitation to join a conversation that is as urgent as it is beautiful.
