A Sensory Escape Above Mexico City

Perched on the 25th floor of the W Mexico City, Moonbass is a bar that wagers on the sensory rather than the spectacular. In a city where nightlife is often synonymous with noise, this space offers something more considered: a carefully orchestrated aesthetic pause.

The interiors combine noble materials — velvet, steel, polished concrete — with warm lighting that encourages intimacy. The atmosphere does not impose; it invites. The analog warmth of vinyl, the arrangement of the furniture, even the cadence of service — all respond to a single clear concept: less stimulation, more intention.

The cocktail program follows the same logic. Preparations such as the Moon Martini — vodka, coconut liqueur, and white vermouth — or the Wallbanger Milk Punch, with its citrus and dairy notes, explore contrast without surrendering elegance. Each drink is served in selected glassware chosen to complement, never compete with, its surroundings.

The food menu is brief, designed around a principle of harmony. Standouts include acorn-fed Iberian ham, watermelon sashimi, and shrimp with rice paper and fermented chile. Flavors are defined, presentations clean. The dessert — a sheep’s milk macaron with raspberry and activated charcoal — holds the same tone: restrained, yet memorable.

An installation by Mexican artist Alejandro Glatt — known for having placed his work on the surface of the moon — lends the space a visual dimension of its own. Inspired by the four elements, his pieces enter into dialogue with the architecture and the broader concept, adding a layer of quiet contemplation.

Moonbass does not aspire to be a trend. It aspires to be a refuge — for those who understand that, sometimes, true luxury unfolds in silence.
