The Guadalajara International Book Fair: How Culture Became an Economic Engine

The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) stands among the world’s most influential cultural events — one whose capacity to generate value extends far beyond the publishing industry. At its most recent edition, the fair surpassed all expectations with a historic attendance record of 907,300 visitors, a new high-water mark that signals a full and confident return of public engagement.
The economic impact remains exceptional: the FIL injects more than $330 million into Guadalajara, benefiting hotels, transportation, restaurants, and local commerce alike. It has also consolidated its standing as the preeminent Spanish-language book market, drawing 2,763 publishing imprints from around the world.
