The Poetics of Jeanne Vicerial

At the heart of contemporary creation, Jeanne Vicerial stands as a defender of time and transformation. Her new series of sculptures, exhibited at TEMPLON under the title Nymphose, explores the powerful duality of fragility and strength through materials such as black cord, thread, and metal. Through these works, Vicerial invites viewers to question their perception of the present and the essence of metamorphosis — weaving art together with themes that are profoundly, irreducibly human.

The figures in Nymphose are a reflection of the search for identity and evolution over time. Certain works — among them Persephone n°3 and Présence, Amnios — present human faces in an enigmatic register, while others, such as Mue n°9, Nymphose, appear inhabited by deities or spirits, drawing the viewer into an introspection that transcends the physical entirely.

Vicerial has incorporated metals such as copper and gold into her works, lending them a symbolic charge — one the gallery describes as “objects-as-offerings” — that speaks to feminine power and interior energy. Through her practice, the artist confronts social taboos surrounding age and the transformation of women, converting vulnerabilities into sources of enduring strength.

Nymphose remains on view in Paris through July 19, offering a singular experience of contemplation — an invitation to consider the inescapable cycles of life and art.
