Ten Million Dollars to Double Savannah’s Jewelry Academy

Jewelers Mutual and SCAD have committed ten million dollars to expand North America’s largest jewelry program. The former Fahm Hall on the Savannah campus has been renamed the Jewelers Mutual Studio, outfitted with equipment drawn directly from the professional atelier.

The studio houses laser welding, 3D printers, induction casting systems, a gemology salon, and dedicated gallery space — infrastructure transplanted wholesale from a fine jewelry house into a university setting.
SCAD alumni hold senior positions at Tiffany & Co., David Yurman, LVMH, and Kendra Scott. The new studio is designed to double program enrollment by 2030, ensuring the pipeline of talent flowing into the fine jewelry sector remains uninterrupted.

“We are securing something worth far more than its monetary value,” said Scott Murphy, CEO of Jewelers Mutual. The remark frames the investment precisely: an insurer betting on the very designers whose work it will one day be called upon to protect.
