Mercedes-Benz and the Art of Identity

Mercedes-Benz Presents BE-LONGING at Espacio CDMX in Mexico City
If contemporary art speaks to you, BE-LONGING demands your attention. The latest exhibition from the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection opens at Espacio CDMX on May 30 and runs through August 31, 2025. The show assembles works by 32 national and international artists, exploring identity through four conceptual axes: bodies, origins, territories, and memories.
Curated by Polina Stroganova, the exhibition reflects on what identity means within a globalized and increasingly fragmented society. Its modular design — conceived by architecture studio C Cúbica — creates an interactive, fluid experience that draws the exhibition’s thematic threads into genuine dialogue, emphasizing the relationships and tensions between each artist’s approach.

The program extends well beyond the gallery walls, incorporating talks, roundtables, guided tours, and film screenings — several of them developed in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Mexico City.
With BE-LONGING, Mercedes-Benz reaffirms its long-standing commitment to art and culture, building a bridge between local and global artistic practice and creating a space for critical reflection on the most pressing questions of contemporary identity.
Featured artists: Emma Adler, Jane Alexander, Francis Alÿs, Pia Camil, Nicole Chaput, Isaac Julien, Zanele Muholi, among others.
Founded in 1977, the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection ranks among Europe’s most significant corporate collections, comprising approximately 3,000 works by artists of international standing. BE-LONGING is a singular opportunity to immerse oneself in the full spectrum of perspectives on what identity means today.
