BMW Art Car #20: The Perfect Fusion of Art and Speed

In a celebration of creativity and technology in rare alignment, the BMW Group has unveiled its landmark 20th BMW Art Car, conceived by internationally acclaimed artist Julie Mehretu. The reveal marks a defining moment in the BMW Art Car World Tour — a global initiative commemorating half a century of artistic innovation on wheels.
On March 28, the BMW M Hybrid V8 Art Car makes its formal debut at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, a milestone at the intersection of art and automotive history. Mehretu’s singular vision is expressed through her large-scale painting Everywhen (2021–2023), a work that layers digitally altered imagery with vibrant neon color to extraordinary effect.
The BMW Art Car World Tour extends well beyond Hong Kong, with confirmed appearances at major cultural events throughout 2025 and 2026 — among them Taipei Dangdai and the Concorso d’Eleganza. The initiative reaffirms BMW’s commitment to the fertile intersection of art and mobility, bringing these works to audiences across the globe. Raymond Tan, CEO of BMW Hong Kong Services Limited, articulates what the BMW Art Car Collection has long represented: “For more than fifty years, it has built a bridge between lovers of art and lovers of the automobile — a creative dialogue without borders.”
The BMW Art Car Collection traces its origins to 1975, when racing driver and art enthusiast Hervé Poulain first conceived the idea. In the decades since, artists of the stature of Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, and most recently Cao Fei have contributed to a legacy that shows no sign of diminishing.
The prospect of experiencing the 20th BMW Art Car at Art Basel Hong Kong is a vivid reminder that art finds its way into every corner of contemporary life. This is a collaboration that promises to inspire for generations — a testament to what becomes possible when art and innovation pursue the same horizon.
