Virgin Galactic, the pioneer of commercial space tourism founded by Richard Branson, has announced a highly anticipated return to the industry. Beginning in 2026, the company will offer tourist flights aboard its new vehicle, the Delta, with ticket sales expected to open early that year. Priced at upward of $600,000, these flights promise to be a defining milestone for those who have long dreamed of touching the edge of space.

According to Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier, the first flight is scheduled for summer 2026 and will be dedicated to scientific research. Beginning in the fall of that year, private passengers will be able to embark on their own odyssey beyond Earth’s atmosphere. “We expect the majority of those joining this first wave to be new customers — among them scientists as well as private individuals,” Colglazier said in a statement.

Following a brief suspension of commercial operations that began in June 2023, the company has redoubled its efforts on the construction of the new vehicles, assembly of which begins next month in Phoenix, Arizona. Doug Ahrens, Chief Financial Officer, noted that approximately half of the company’s expenditures this year will be directed toward the tooling and capabilities required to produce the Delta vehicles at scale.

Virgin Galactic is also evaluating the possibility of establishing a second spaceport in Italy, extending its ambitions well beyond its existing facility in New Mexico. The move underscores the company’s commitment not only to delivering singular experiences, but to charting new frontiers in the commercial space tourism market.
