Lürssen has launched Cosmos, a 114.2-meter megayacht that marks a historic milestone for the German shipyard by integrating methanol fuel cell technology — one of the most compelling clean-energy solutions to reach luxury yachting.

Designed by Marc Newson, Cosmos makes an immediate impression with its futurist aesthetic: a glass dome crowns the owner’s private study, delivering 360-degree panoramic views, while the upper deck houses an observation lounge positioned beneath the helipad. Aft, a dedicated deck features a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and a tender berth for smaller craft.

The vessel was built to coincide with the shipyard’s 150th anniversary, its steel hull reinforced to Ice Class 1D classification, enabling operation in polar waters and open-ocean passages of the most demanding kind.

Its hybrid propulsion system allows the yacht to cover up to 1,000 nautical miles at low speed with zero emissions, and to remain at anchor for up to 15 nights drawing solely on clean electricity generated through methanol-to-hydrogen reformation. The technology also delivers a measurable reduction in noise and vibration — elevating onboard comfort while meaningfully reducing environmental impact.

As CEO Peter Lürssen put it: “Cosmos leaves an indelible mark on our history.”
