The ultra-luxury automobile has entered a new era — that of the unrepeatable object. The Rolls‑Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is a commission created for a specific client within the contemporary coachbuilding program of Rolls‑Royce Motor Cars. Presented during Monterey Car Week, it inaugurates the Droptail series: four independently designed automobiles, each with its own identity, materials, and narrative.

The inspiration is the Black Baccara rose, prized for its deep crimson tone that borders on black. That reference is translated to the coachwork through a finish called True Love — developed across more than one hundred color iterations to achieve a profound red that shifts with the light.

The design adopts a two-seat roadster silhouette with long proportions and a rear deck that recalls the teak decking of a classic yacht. The removable hardtop integrates an electrochromic panel that allows the transparency of the glass to be adjusted at will.

The interior houses one of the most complex works of artisanal craft the marque has ever undertaken. The rear console features a marquetry composed of 1,603 individual pieces of wood, assembled to recreate the motion of rose petals in full bloom.

The dashboard also integrates a removable timepiece developed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet, conceived equally as a wristwatch. With an estimated value approaching $30 million, the La Rose Noire Droptail asserts an entirely different logic within automotive luxury — that of the automobile conceived as a singular work of art.
